Thank you for visiting our website and learning more about the decontamination and decommissioning (D&D) progress at the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Plant in Pike County, Ohio.
Fluor-BWXT Portsmouth (FBP) is comprised of more than 2,000 workers dedicated to the safe environmental cleanup of the Portsmouth site to prepare the land for reindustrialization.
As you click through our website, you will see that a large part of our mission is our commitment to building a strong and sustainable economy in southern Ohio through regional purchasing and economic development grants; supporting the needs of area non-profit organizations; and, the advancement of the region’s next generation through STEM education and worker training.

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) recently launched a redesigned version of its popular Virtual Museum website (www.portsvirtualmuseum.org) covering the history of the Portsmouth Site.
Website updates the story of historic plant’s impact through the years.
“The updated website is an incredible, interactive timeline of the PORTS site,” said Jeff Bettinger, DOE Site Lead.
“Not only can you learn more about the work over the years, but you see how the Department of Energy’s decision to build in southern Ohio impacted the growth of the region from population, to housing, to operations, to current day. It is an amazing story filled with neighbors, friends and even family from across the generations. The story continues to grow and so does this website as we move forward.”
The website was first launched in 2012 and has attracted more than 54,000 visitors from 154 different countries around the world since then. The site currently has information, pictures, and videos from 22 different buildings, including some that have already been demolished as part of the ongoing decontamination and decommissioning. Other features include a virtual tour, oral histories from retirees and community members, photos dating back to plant construction, old films and local TV news coverage and even an employee newsletter archive dating back to the early 1950s. The new enhanced virtual museum is also now viewable on all mobile devices.
Our mission is to safely decontaminate and decommission the Portsmouth Site while partnering with the community to create a sustainable economic future for the region.
