Fluor-BWXT Demonstrates Robotic Technology

PIKE COUNTY, Ohio -- June 13, 2019 -- Fluor-BWXT representatives recently demonstrated emerging robotic technology at Senator Sherrod Brown’s Summer Manufacturing Institute for students in Jackson County.  Damon Horn and Kyle Rase, Fluor-BWXT, discussed exoskeletal robotic technology and its application at the Portsmouth site.

The “Exovest”, exoskeleton robot, alleviates stress on the arms and back for workers with tasks that require them to have their arms raised for an extended period of time. 

Senator Sherrod Brown’s sponsors Summer Manufacturing Institutes across Ohio for students, ages 9-14 with a curriculum that includes an education on different types of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) careers.

“I am interested to see all these places that most people don’t get to see and hope to get knowledge of all the things I could possibly do after high school,” said Corbin Wilbur who is going into his freshman year at Jackson high school.

“It’s important to know you don’t need a college degree to find a great career.” Said Tiffani Stevens, Jackson County Jobs and Family Services, “We want to be able to show these students all the opportunities that are available in our region.
