  • Fire Services Conducts Prescribed Burn at X-611A Former Lime Sludge Lagoons

    PIKETON, Ohio – Six PORTS Fire Services firefighters conducted a prescribed burn of the grasses of the X-611A Prairie, the former lime sludge lagoons, Sunday afternoon, Dec. 18. Several other personnel were on hand to assist and provide required support.

    PIKETON, Ohio – November 21st, 2011 -- Fluor-B&W Portsmouth has announced the closure of Northeast Bypass Road connecting Dutch Run Road to Shyville Road for one day in early December as part of a controlled burn exercise of the X-611A prairie along the bypass road. Fire Protection Services at the Department of Energy (DOE) Portsmouth Site at Piketon will conduct the exercise.

  • Recycled DOE Plant Materials to Promote Economic Growth

    PIKETON, Ohio – August 29, 2011 -- Demolitions have helped generate more than 8 million pounds of metal at the Department of Energy (DOE) Piketon Site for recycling, further promoting economic activity in the region. Proceeds from recycling that metal through the unique program will add to more than $2.8 million already generated from recycling more than 5.2 million pounds of material from site demolition efforts.

    PIKETON, Ohio – March 29, 2011 -- Fluor-B&W Portsmouth LLC today assumed leadership of the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Plant in Pike County, Ohio.  The company, led by Fluor Corporation (NYSE: FLR) and includes nuclear operations leader The Babcock & Wilcox Company (B&W) (NYSE: BWC), began the operational phase of its five-year contract with DOE, which has renewal options for up to five additional years.
