Fluor-BWXT Receives State Safety Award

PIKE COUNTY, Ohio -- June 4, 2019 -- Fluor-BWXT Portsmouth has been recognized by the Southern Ohio Safety Council for completing nearly 2 million safe work hours from Nov. 27, 2017 to July 10, 2018. This Special Award from the Bureau of Worker’s Compensation’s (BWC) Division of Safety & Hygiene was presented during a meeting held at the Portsmouth Area Chamber of Commerce May 15.

Director Duane McLane, Environmental Safety, Health & Quality (ESH&Q) said receiving the award is an important form of recognition from the community.

“This record is another example of our safety professionalism and the culture of our workers,” McLane said.

To be eligible, employers must complete 500,000 hours and at least six months without an injury resulting in a day or more away from work. In conjunction with BWC’s Division of Safety & Hygiene, the safety councils present safety awards throughout Ohio to promote greater interest in the prevention of occupational accidents and disease. Members with the highest safety records are honored at annual awards events.
